The elusive notion of word

Word mysteries

After Montezuma, Bill Gates.

The word “word” is overloaded indeed. Its sense is elusive. Furthermore, the notion of sense is still more elusive. What is the sense of “sense” ? If you don't know, how can you tell whether my words made sense so far ?

Speaking of the sense of a word alludes to a mysterious sense function. Actually, words are polysemic. And it is believed there exist synonymous words. So we may hope at best to understand a relation between words and senses. Question. What is this relation?

Now we know the nature of words, even if we do not understand well yet the nature of senses. Words, like sentences, are sequential.

A few idiomatic expressions (in French). Le mot juste. Faire un bon mot. Dire un gros mot. A mots couverts. Avoir le dernier mot.
